BANG! LEMAÎTRE WALK
BANG! IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF GEORGES LEMAÎTRE
Meet Georges Lemaître and discover who he was as a person and what he signifies, as a legend.
The man about whose findings Albert Einstein once remarked, ‘This is the most beautiful and satisfactory explanation of creation to which I have ever listened’, was a priest and professor at the University of Leuven. The walk takes you past all his familiar haunts, where he lived and worked. His ideas and their scientific import, as well as the challenges he faced in gaining their acceptance, all come up for discussion. You’ll also learn about what was sometimes a complicated relationship between his faith and science, getting to know who he was not just as a scientist but a person. By the end of this walk, you’ll look at Leuven and all the stars in the sky with a new set of eyes.
